Overview

When you upload your app on an app store (Play store, App store,...), screenshots are required. They give a preview to the user of what the app contains and show some of the features. You must have at least 3 screenshots that must be taken directly from your app and you can add up to 8-10 visuals.

Compositions

You might have to produce a bunch of visuals for iOS, Android, iPadOS, MacOS, and/or Apple TV. They all have specific sizes (that you can check in the template tab and have directly on the PSD template).

Portrait VS landscape

For the mobile and tablet stores you can use portrait or landscape visuals. Usually landscape visuals will be used when the app is used in landscape (gaming apps for example).

For portrait display, use the template name-2203-app-screenshots-portrait.
For landscape display, use the template name-2203-app-screenshots-landscape

For iOS there are a lot of different sizes as you will see in the psd template. You should produce all the sizes (landscape or portrait). This way Apple makes sure the screenshots will fit each of their devices.
For Android, it's a bit easier as it's a one size fits all policy. There are less visuals to produce but they might not be well adapted for each devices.

Best pratices

The screenshots are content visuals which means no HTML content comes on top.
Each screenshot must show your app. But that doesn't mean it should stricly show your app and nothing else. You can get creative: add decorations, make elements pop out of the smartphone's screen, use texts, display a screen on two visuals,... While staying on brand. Feel free to get inspired on the web by what has already been done.

To summarize you screenshots should be:

  1. Appealing and eye-catching
  2. Clean and to the point
  3. On-brand

How to

Please use the template and respect the following guidances:

  1. Choose the right template (cf usage > compositions)
  2. Produce the screenshots for each needed devices. For mobile device: all iOS and android sizes (portrait or landscape). iPadOS visuals if needed, same for MacOS or Apple TV.
  3. Try to have font sizes big enough on each screenshots and screen sizes for readability.
  4. Portrait screenshots in App Store are larger than Google Play Store images. Keep this in mind when placing text and choosing text size (=text size should probably be bigger for the Play Store).
  5. Produce visuals in all required languages (EN, FR, NL).
  6. Produce at least 3 portrait screenshots or 1 landscape screenshot to display on the stores. Maximum 8 (play store) or 10 (app store).
  7. Make sure your visuals are not too heavy and compress if needed.
